HPLC method with electrochemical detection on gold electrode for simultaneous determination of different antimicrobial agents in cosmetics

Antimicrobial agents are added to a wide variety of products such as cosmetics reduce the risk microbial contamination and ensure suitability safety product. However, recent studies have shown that these compounds can negative effects on human health environment. Therefore, it is crucial develop analytical methods control amount in personal care guarantee product quality. This paper presents an HPLC method with electrochemical detection using gold electrode for determination most used antimicrobial cosmetic products: methylparaben (MP), 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (4-HBA), phenoxyethanol (PE) methylisothiazolinone (MIT). For this purpose, response was evaluated electrode. The optimal MP, 4-HBA; PE MIT performed at pH 2 + 1.50 V (vs Ag/AgCl). Under separation conditions, limits (LODs) between 10 110 ?g L?1 were obtained. These LODs lower than those previously reported other mass spectrometry diode-array detectors. Cosmetic different compositions successfully analysed proposed obtaining recoveries 76 % 119 %.
